An animated image of a young girl in a graduation gown and cap with her diploma in one hand, a bouquet of pink, red, and yellow flowers in her other hand, and white tights and brown shoes on.

It has been a minute since last I wrote a blog post. A hot, freaking mess of a minute.

In the summer months, I get most of my writing done because come fall...

It is back to work I go. And no. I am not a teacher, though they are pretty awesome people.

I work in the field of special education, in a role designed to helping high school students on the spectrum navigate those tough years. Transitioning from elementary to high school is a mountain climb for many kids, and so much of my role is about bridging gaps. Sometimes that means adapting assignments to their learning style; other times it means finding creative ways to help them meet the assignment head-on. It’s rewarding, it’s draining, and it requires a lot of listening to what isn’t being said.

September always feels like jetlag without the plane ticket. I go from being a full-time writer to balancing work, writing, and life… and let’s be honest, balance is generous. It’s more like juggling flaming swords while walking a tightrope.

So, while I take the next few weeks to settle back into work mode and put the finishing touches on Pieces of Copper

I want to know: what’s your day job? And what’s your dream job? Mine’s no secret...

I want to write full-time. Permanently.

Until next time,

Lexi
